How can coaching help me or help my company?

According to the results of recent literature, unproductive employees cost companies approximately $500 billion annually. Low morale, poor performance, and minimum effort can keep the ball rolling for a while; however, permanent damage happens if leadership neglects to see the full picture and the impact of continuing to operate under such circumstances. Research on employee retention shows that when leadership is investing in their employees’ future, creating a better workplace, and offering professional development opportunities, employees feel that they are valuable assets to the company and are less likely to resign.

One of the best ways in which companies can ensure that employees feel valuable is through life coaching. Research on life coaching indicates that it has been very effective in enhancing productivity of employees. The return on the investment of external coaching can be translated into money when companies improve the workplace environment by addressing peer conflict, boosting engagement, and improving morale and motivation. Achieving those objectives will lead to retention of experienced employees, attraction of talents, and improved organizational performance.

Some professionals associate coaching with positive psychology as they believe that coaching capitalizes on strengths rather than weaknesses. In reality coaching focuses on three areas:(1) the client and what they want to achieve or improve, (2) the obstacles that are preventing the individual from reaching their goals, and (3) success measures in the form of an action plan or analytical tool. These three areas are typically found within, and coaching techniques help the client by taking them on an internal journey of self-reflection and self-awareness which can lead to improved morale, stronger performance, and enhanced productivity.

Below are some of the topics addressed during external life coaching sessions:

-Problem solving and dealing with peer conflict

-Communicating with peers and superiors

-Managing dominant alpha personalities

-Addressing discomfort at work because of something or someone

-Managing stress and time

-Prioritizing and goal setting

-Managing emotions at work

-Having crucial conversations

-Overcoming demotivation and low morale

-Managing diverse teams virtually

-Decision-making

-Overcoming resistance to change
